Water restrictions imposed in South Australia22 May 2003
A high-level Government Taskforce was established to investigate the impact this would have on the State, resulting from the restriction. Following consultation with the Taskforce, the Government decided to tackle the issue by authorising SA Water to restrict the use of water for non-essential purposes. Restrictions include watering gardens, hosing driveways and paved areas and washing cars. This will also include restrictions on the irrigation of sports grounds and public facilities such as median strips and some parks and gardens. What is very important to note is that these restrictions apply only to water use outside a house or business. According to SA Water's website, Landlords cannot be held responsible for any non-compliance with restrictions by tenants. It is the tenant who will be issued with an official warning notice, and if necessary, an infringement notice. For more information about how the new restrictions will affect your business and clients log onto www.sawater.com.au or telephone the S A Water Hotline on 1800 130 952.
